XXX Xander Cage Fails to WoW

XXX:Return of Xander Cage

Fans of Xander Cage were shattered when it appeared that he had died in XXX : State of the Union in 2005, but the title of the latest installment in the XXX franchise is a spoiler alert, you guessed it, Xander Cage is back, and as expected, with a few bangs!

In a nutshell, this movie can be described as same same, but different. With the first installment having been released almost 15 years ago, references to the first movie is a bit of a downer and almost give the movie a deja vu feeling rather than a new and improved feeling.

As you would come to expect from a XXX movie, the stunts are extreme and far fetched, with the special effects making the Imax 3D experience more enjoyable. Xander Cage (played by Vin Diesel) is back as the adrenaline, thrill seeking, extreme sports enthusiast to save the world.

An interesting change from the usual XXX movies, is that this time round there are some interesting team members that are along for the ride. Unlike previous films which included an all male leading cast, characters played by Deepika Padukone, Nina Dobrev, Ruby Rose and Toni Collette add some women power with a don’t mess with me attitude to this team.

With their unique personalities, each of the new characters, bring along their own set of skills , adding a refreshed take on the movie which makes it stand out when compared to the previous episodes in the trilogy.

The story line is predictable, but the way the characters are brought together and how they go about saving the world is filled with non stop action. A few unexpected twists and surprise appearances, keeps you interested in wanting to watch to the end.

Although the story line is predictable, the non stop action scenes, special effects, humor and flamboyant characters, make up for this.

If you enjoy action packed movies, filled with non stop action, then XXX : The Return of Xander Cage would be a relaxing way to spend a few hours to unwind, however, you wouldn’t find me rushing out to buy the DVD.

Rating : 3 out of 5

Looking forward to Vin Diesel redeeming himself in Fast & Furious 8.

XXX:Return of Xander Cage is out in cinemas on 27 January 2017.
